316L stainless steel angle is made up mainly of iron, with large proportions of chromium (16–18%), nickel (10–14%), and molybdenum (2–3%), in addition to minimal carbon content for improved weldability. Its mechanical characteristics are tensile strength of approximately 485 MPa, yield strength of 170 MPa, and good elongation of about 40 percent. This alloy is tough at cryogenic temperatures, which is ideal for extreme environments. Molybdenum addition further improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in chloride environments, and is thus suited to chemical and marine conditions.
