SA537 Class 1 is a normalized carbon steel alloy primarily used for pressure vessels and boilers. Its composition includes carbon (0.20–0.24%), manganese (0.60–0.90%), silicon (0.15–0.50%), phosphorus (≤0.035%), sulfur (≤0.035%), and small amounts of chromium and nickel to enhance strength. The mechanical properties of SA537 Class 1 include a tensile strength of 485–655 MPa, a yield strength of 275 MPa, and an elongation of 20% in 200mm. This steel offers excellent toughness and waterproof weldability and is ideal for high-pressure and temperature applications in power generation and chemical processing industries.

Tempering : Notch toughness can be improved by quenched cooling from hot rolling or normalizing by the supplier. If such a faster cooling rate is agreed upon between purchaser and supplier then the steel is also to be tempered at 1200 F.
