Stainless Steel 17-7 PH (UNS S17700) is a precipitation-hardening alloy made up of about 17% chromium, 7% nickel, and trace amounts of aluminum. It strikes a remarkable balance between high strength, good corrosion resistance, and formability. When subjected to heat treatment (like RH950 or CH900), this alloy can reach tensile strengths of up to 1150 MPa and yield strengths around 1000 MPa, while still maintaining moderate ductility and hardness. The 17-7 PH alloy remains stable and retains its mechanical properties at temperatures as high as 600°F (315°C), making it perfect for structural and load-bearing applications in tough environments.
