These foils are made up of nickel (the balance), 20–22.5% chromium, 12.5–14.5% molybdenum, 2.5–3.5% tungsten, along with trace amounts of iron, cobalt, and manganese. This unique blend gives them excellent resistance to crevice corrosion, pitting, and stress-corrosion cracking, even in environments with oxidizing chemicals like ferric and cupric chlorides. On the mechanical side, Hastelloy C22 boasts a tensile strength of 690–785 MPa, a yield strength of 275–355 MPa, and impressive elongation properties. The alloy remains stable and tough under extreme temperatures and harsh corrosive conditions, while also being easy to weld and form.
